Film Club! NTL showing of The Misanthrope
Friday, 20 November • Doors open 6-30pm for a drink and nibbles • Showing starts 7pm.

This film features multi award wining (of Killing Eve fame!) Sandra Oh, who plays the title role in this razor-sharp reimagining of Moliere's classic dark comedy.  This film runs for 1 hr 46 mins and there is no interval on this occasion.

Telling the truth isn't always that simple.  Alice, a brilliant novelist, despises the carefully constructed lies of modern society - but, the more she challenges those around her, the fiercer the backlash becomes.  Soon, she must confront the price of speaking her truth in a world that would rather silence her.

Filmed live on stage at the National Theatre - Indhu Rubasingham directs Martin Crimp's (Cyrano de Bergerac) highly anticipated play.  The Misanthrope was first performed at the Stratford Festival in 1981.  This new adaptation starring Sandra Oh was opened at the Lyttelton Theatre on 16 June 2026 and ran up to 1 August and was filmed over two performances.

PLEASE NOTE: This production features haze, strobe light effects, an audience blinder and a total blackout.  It includes strong language and references to sex, violence and drug and alcohol abuse. This film will be subtitled.
