A public programme of activities, workshops and events for young people in Bath

From Rainbows to Aliens, how the study of light advanced what we knew about our universe.

This workshop will answer how the field of spectroscopy changed what we knew about stars. And how that has led us to knowing about the existence of galaxies beyond our own and the first evidence of dark matter.

Learn about:

• The history of telescopes and astronomy

• How spectroscopy works

• What starlight can reveal

• Galaxies and dark matter

• Exoplanets and the search for alien life

• Modern discoveries in space science

What to expect:

• Presentation

• Demonstrations and Interactive Experiments

• Practical and craft activities

• Optical apparatus, bright lights, low power lasers and some loud noise
